This standard enables criteria for the use of windows, including roof windows, and external doors according to EN 14351-1 to be determined for different types of building. The criteria according to this standard refer to windows and external doors as installed, i.e. depending on their installation location, the height of the building, etc. The standard applies to windows and doors made of any suitable material or combination of suitable materials. Power-operated doors in accordance with EN 16361 are not covered by this standard. Until such time as the European product standard EN 16034 for fire-resistant doors becomes available, the performance characteristics of fire-resistant and smoke-control external doors relating to their function as external doors will continue to be stated in the respective general building authority approvals or building authority test certificates. The other performance characteristics of such doors can be determined in accordance with this standard.
