Summary

This standard specifies a method for determining the chlorophyll-a concentration. The method can be applied to all waters. It is also suitable to quantify the change in the algal biomass (cell proliferation) in biological tests to examine the toxicity or productivity of waters or of dissolved substances in water. Accessory pigments (e. g. chlorophyll b and c) as well as various chlorophyll degradation products can not be determined with this method. An estimate of the phaeopigment concentration is possible (see Annex A).
