The standard describes a chemical method for the determination of the chlorophyll-a in surface water. The parameter allows to quantify the change of the alga bio mass during biological test, for instance a toxicity test of substances in water. In addition the parameter gives an information about the degree of trophication of a surface water and about the metabolic productivity of the Phytoplankton.*In the experiment there is to filter a water sample, to produce an extract from the filtration residue and to measure this extract with a spectrophotometer. The result of the test is the mass per unit volume of the Chlorophyll-a in µg/1.
