This document specifies a test method for the detection of local hardened areas of hot rolled steel products performed in 2 steps. It consists of an electromagnetic test method to detect local material inhomogeneities and their subsequent verification by a hardness measurement to classify these areas, accurately. It can be used for flat products made of ferromagnetic, non-alloyed and low-alloyed steels, which can cause local hardening during production and further processing.
