Modern devices and systems are becoming more complicated owing to the integration of the light source with various parts of the circuit. This can lead to confusion about the interpretation of testing methods. Many of these special lighting products employ discharge lamps requiring ballasting for proper operation. Components that may have been independant parts of a conventional system are being combined with other components within the same housing. There is clearly a need for agreement on terminology and definitions for lamp/ballast/starter combinations.
