Engineers' cold chisels and allied tools - Technical specifications.
Summary
This document applies to steel hand tools such as chisel, drift punches, prick punches and pin punches. The standard does not apply to hammers and cutting chisels. The purpose of this technical specification is to set out the principal conditions for the manufacture and usability of chisels and allied tools. Technical improvements are permissible. Users of tools supplied according to this standard will not be at risk if these tools are used correctly and for their intended purpose. This means that die-to-die blows i.e. blows onto hardened components with a hardness in excess of 40 HRC should be avoided.
Notes
DIN 7255 (1984-11) remains valid alongside this standard until 2012-07-31.
