This standard gives guidance on the application, jointing and installation of pipelines made of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) on ships. The regulations concerning installation and jointing are given in a specially detailed form for the following reason. The regulations for installation and jointing of PVC-U pipelines for buildings are applicable to ships only with some restrictions. Moreover, the specifications for installation and jointing normally used in shipbuilding for metal pipelines, are deviating fundamentally from the requirements for PVC-U pipelines. This standard takes also account of the relevant conditions of approval by the competent authorities, e.g. Germanischer Lloyd.
