Fish sampling with gill nets can be used for assessment of fish populations in lakes, reservoirs and coastal areas. The method will provide procedures to be used by trained persons in evaluating fish populations for the purpose of classification of ecological status. These procedures allow standardisation of sampling methods for descriptions of fish populations. This document will describe a sampling approach using gill nets, which can be used in characterising species composition, abundance and age structure of fish fauna in lakes, reservoirs and coastal areas.
