Since the first edition of this Guidance in 2004, scientific publications on results of toxicological investigation of additives to tobacco products have increased significantly. In absence of globally recognized standard procedures for toxicological evaluation of tobacco additives, this revised Guidance will propose an appropriate test battery based on published strategies and methods. Besides a de-facto standard, key assessment criteria are proposed. This document refers to the tobacco products directive (2001/37/EC).
