IEEE Standard for Programmed Inquiry, Learning, or Teaching (PILOT)
Summary
New IEEE Standard - Inactive-Withdrawn.
Language and coding standards for the PILOT programming language are described. PILOT (Programmed Inquiry, Learning, Or Teaching) is a language for the development of conversational interactive sequences often used for the computer-based instruction. The intent is to improve code portability ant to minimize the development of dialects of this language, thereby improving the sharing of courseware among teaching institutions. PILOT syntax, core statements, and the core language are defined. Variables and language extensions are covered.
This specification describes language and coding standards for the PILOT programming language. PILOT, which stands for Programmed Inquiry, Learning, Or Teaching, is a language for the development of conversational interactive sequences often used for computer-based instruction.
The purpose of this standard is to improve code portability and to minimize the development of dialects of this language. It is expected that this will improve the sharing of courseware among teaching institutions. This standard has the following goals:1) To clarify contradictions in existing implementations of the language; 2) To develop a consistent recommended core definition; 3) To provide information about styles of language extensions that can be recommended.
