The electrical, mechanical, and physical requirements of oil-immersed and dry-type air core smoothing reactors for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) applications are specified. Test code is defined and appropriate technical background information is presented or identified.
This standard applies only to oil-immersed and dry-type smoothing reactors for dc transmission. It does not apply to other smoothing reactors such as reactors for power converters for variable speed drives, etc.
