This recommended practice specifies the requirements for 1.5 kV to 35 kV medium voltage direct current (DC) transformers, including functional requirements, performance requirements, and test requirements. This recommended practice also provides the definitions, topology and configuration, primary equipment, control and protection requirements, interface specifications, auxiliary system requirements, and application scenarios for medium voltage DC transformers in distribution systems.
The purpose of this recommended practice is to provide technical specifications for medium voltage (1.5 kV to 35 kV) direct current (DC) transformer applications. Utilities, integrators, and other interested entities can specify application conditions and topological structure of DC transformers, and define the requirements for function, performance, primary equipment, control and protection, testing of DC transformers in medium voltage direct current power systems. This document aims to provide the knowledge base, experience, and recommended use cases for greater utilization of medium voltage DC transformers in modern power distribution networks.
