Spectrophotometric Detection of Soot in Used Engine Oil Samples

Summary

This method permits the evaluation of the proportion of soot in used diesel engine oils. It is to be used for the measurement of soot in oil samples taken from engine tests run in accordance with the test method CEC L-56-T-95.

Used oils are mechanically pre-treated using a paint shaker before measuring the quantity of soot in the oil using a spectrophotometer.
