The job of a crane operator is not an official profession in Germany. Although crane operators are entrusted with values in the million, an employee is often used as a crane operator after a simple instruction session. BGV D6 demands crane operators shall be trained in operating and maintenance of the crane and their qualification be verifiable. The standard complements the series of standards VDI 2194 by defining an exemplary questionnaire to review the theoretical fitness of crane operators and thus closes the gap in existing training.
