Emission control - Coal preparation plants including driers.
Summary
This guideline deals with all methods in coal processing from the treatment of extracted raw coal after leaving the shaft to loading the finished products. In coal preparation plants marketable products are produced from raw coal by classifying, sorting (enrichment), crushing, dewatering, drying, mixing, etc. In particular, for power plants low-grade-, small and lump coal, for the iron producing industry coking and pulverised coal, and for the heat market (household and small consumers) anthracite and egg-coal are produced. In Germany screen dryers are used for the drying process. In the course of this, fresh air is heated in a heat exchanger with steam to about 180 °C and blown on top of the coal to be dried. The heat-carrying gases have direct contact with the material to be dried. The guideline presents lay-out data as well as a process scheme for screen dryers and names emission sources. Moreover technical possibilities for reducing emissions are described in detail. The emission values obtained by current state-of-the-art techniques are listed in table form. The draft closes with a detailed instruction for the performance of emission measurements within these plants.
