The guideline deals with the storage of bulk materials in bins and silos. Refer to guideline VDI 3972 for the storage of bulk materials in stock yards.Storing bulk materials in improper bins or silos often entails problems which may be minimised by a physical characterisation of the bulk. This guideline is intended to allow optimal planning by giving an understanding of the problems inherent in the feeding and discharging of bins and silos and their extraction devices.
