The standard describes the economical and productive operation of deep-hole drilling with gun drills (the most common drilling type for deep-hole drilling) while achieving the highest quality. It presents the general advantages of the drilling method, describes the specific cooling lubricant concepts and lists the characteristics of the machines, with which the method can be used successfully. Furthermore, the standard discusses the tools to be used in detail, also their characteristics and variants. As a special aid, the standard contains a list of recommended cutting values for deep-hole drilling with gun drills for different materials.
