This standard defines communication aids to describe the versatile application possibilities of hard cutting materials in a more comprehensive way. For this purpose, the materials to be machined and the chip removing machining processes are classified and marked with code letters. In this way, the application suitability of individual cutting material grades can be described comprehensively and uniformly with the aid of application diagrams in the form of tables or data records, taking into account defined rules.
