VDI 3388:2012-03

In this guideline the common materials used for tools in metal forming are listed. This includes casting materials like grey cast iron and cast tool steel, rolled and forged steels as well as non ferrous metals and synthetic materials. Apart from composition, hardness and tensile strength further properties which are relevant for tooling like machining properties, weldability and the possibilities for hardening and coating are quoted. The dominant purposes of use and recommendations for use are given.
