Returnable packaging systems have continuously been gaining importance in national and international logistics for quite a time now. Increasing price war, rising competitive pressure, growing globalisation and increasingly severe legislation have made them a more and more essential part of the internal and external logistics of a company. Nearly every company today participates in one or more returnable packaging systems. The pool providers, however, seem to become more and more exchangeable as load carriers and containers become increasingly standardized. This makes the service price being the key factor for the choice of pool provider. This guideline helps the user make a targeted choice of the least-cost disposable or returnable packaging system for his or her purpose. It integrates different valid concepts in an application-oriented manner.
