Environmental meteorology - Meteorological measurements - Radiation.
Summary
Meteorological measurements for purposes of air pollution prevention are necessary not only for the assessment of ambient air processes, but also for the surveillance of air quality. In times of climate change the investigation of the radiative balance of the atmosphere air gains more importance. This especially concerns the measurement of global radiation, direct solar radiation, and net total radiation. On the basis of the measurement of global radiation as well as certain portions in the radiation spectrum, insight can be gained into the concentration of gaseous and particulate trace constituents in the air as well as into the photochemical formation of secondary air pollutants. This standard describes requirements on the radiation measurement equipment, site selection, calibration, checking, and maintenance. It is designed for operators who run monitoring stations measuring global radiation, direct solar radiation, and net total radiation for the purposes of air pollution prevention as well as for the requirements of agriculture, power engineering, building construction and meteorology, especially radiation climatology. Included are investigations of the effects of radiation in the technical and biological framework.
