The standard picks the diffuse emissions from landfills for mineral and/or biodegradable waste as a central theme and describes requirements and defined measurement and calculation methods for the determination of the source strength and the emission factors of diffuse dust, odour and landfill gas emissions for both completed and operating landfills. The measurement and calculation methods identified in this standard allow a sufficiently accurate determination of diffuse emissions. Therefore, the standard identifies the most important parameters and application criteria. The standard is applicable for landfills that are legally regulated, as well as those that existed before these regulations. It does not deal with landfill sites for hazardous waste and underground storage. The influence of a mechanical-biological pre-treatment prior to deposition is taken into account. In addition, recommendations are given on how emissions can be prevented or mitigated. The standard addresses both assessors and operators of landfills and representatives of authorities.
