Mechanical vibration in machines and equipment are not only a consequence of function but also result from faults and damage. The usual approach here is to apply signal analysis procedures to the measurement signals in order to form parameters such as the total r.m.s. value, the peak value or individual frequency components in order to use them as diagnostic features, these diagnostic features are then compared with limit values or their changes over time observed.
