Complaints about odours in ambient air are very common, especially if a plant is located in the immediate vicinity of residential areas. Conflicts may occur in spite of compliance with legal requirements. The standard describes principles and typical applications of communication methods and procedures aiming at the prevention and settlement of conflicts. The standard´s main users are applicants/plant operators as well as surveillance and licencing authorities and sector agencies. Principally, the communication methods for conflict prevention and settlement presented in this standard are also applicable to other pollutants than odour immissions.
