Biological measuring techniques for the determination and evaluation of effects of air pollution on plants (biomonitoring) - Use of passive biomonitoring methods with freestanding trees
Summary
The standard covers the investigation and evaluation of the effects and spatial distribution of plant-related air pollutants on higher plants, including the accumulation of substances induced by air pollution. At little effort, the described method can be applied very quickly and provides reliable results immediately. In addition, the standard provides recommendations to determine the effects in the surroundings of emission sources with passive biomonitoring methods and names species and plant organs to be used, in order to optimise the informative value, comparability and evaluation of the results. Practical fields of application and tasks of passive biomonitoring with woody plants are, in particular, environmental impact assessments and proceedings for the preservation of evidence of ecological impacts.
