Bioaerosols and biological agents - Risk assessment of source-related ambient air measurements in the scope of environmental health - Risk assessment for legionella containing aerosols
Summary
Legionellae are known as aquatic, gram-negative, non spore-forming bacteria that may be transported into ambient air by humid aerosols and thus spread even further. Illnesses caused by inhalation of legionellae are Pontiac fever and Legionellosis (Legionnaire's disease). The standard summarises the technical knowledge on characteristics, occurrence and environmental medical relevance of legionellae as well as information on sources, measurement methods and existing regulations. It presents possibilities and limitations of environmental medical evaluation and gives specific recommendations for preventive measures.
