Apron conveyors are continuous conveyors with an endless chain as a conveying mechanism and connected butting or overlapping plates, cells, boxes or buckets as conveying elements for bulk material. The standard describes areas of application, properties, and the resultant suitability for applications, so as to give guidance for the proper selection of apron conveyors in bulk material handling flow planning. The principles and recommendations provided are based on theoretical principles and practical experience. Design recommendations are given for bulk material intake and guidance, wear liners, throw-off point and tracking. Calculations for volume and mass flow as well as motion resistance, input power and tension of the chain are represented.
