Considered as universal load carriers, pallets are an integral part of today´s logistics processes. Simultaneously the requirements for the information provided about the carried goods are rising. For instance parallelisation of material and information flow is a minimum requirement. Despite the heterogeneous Auto-ID hardware used in different companies, no compatibility problems must arise when identifying the markings. The application methods and locations for labelling pallets with optical and/or radio-frequency data carriers described in this standard allow for seamless compatibility between labelling and Auto-ID system. Additionally the Standard includes the description of methods for testing other individual labelling solutions upon their compatibility.
