This standard provides a uniform definition of the term energy management and is therefore applicable in all the various areas concerned, such as local and regional government properties, commercial and industrial properties, or properties of energy supply companies. After the publication of the standards concerning the certification of energy management and energy audits (DIN EN ISO 50001, DIN EN 16247) there is still the necessity to integrate the interests of energy management and to transfer them to practical use. The standard presents the links between the objective of certification and the practical implementation of an energy management system.
