Thermal use of the underground - Ground source heat pump systems
Summary
The focus of the VDI 4640 Part 2 lies on the design and installation of heat pumps that use the ground as a heat source. The design and installation of the following application cases are considered in the VDI Standard: heat pump systems (HP-systems) with use of groundwater through wells, HP-systems installations with use of horizontal heat exchangers and borehole heat exchangers and systems with direct evaporation. Additional heat source systems such as energy piles, concrete elements touching the earth or tunnels as heat exchangers, compact horizontal heat exchangers and storage pipes are also topics of the VDI-Standard.
