Genetic engineering operations in genetic engineering facilities - Guidance on safe operation of genetic engineering facilities
Summary
Since 1990, production and use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in closed systems are subject to European law regulations. These oblige the member states to take care by national legislations that the human health and the environment are protected from harmful consequences of methods in genetic engineering. This obligation got followed for the first time by decree of the genetic engineering law (GenTG) and supplementary ordinances which are updated and developed further regularly since then in 1990 in Germany. The guideline puts the specifications of the GenTG, the supplementary ordinances and regulations in concrete terms and describes the status quo of technology for the check of the security procedures as well as for sampling and analytics. Thus, it gives a well manageable and orientating support with for the planning implementation of a safe operation of genetic engineering plants.
