A holistic view of planning and building of construction projects enables improvement of quality and prevents waste of resources. "Lean construction" describes a practise-tested approach for economical and cooperative development of construction projects. Lean construction is the adaptation of mean management, which has been practised for a long time, for example in the automotive industry. The aim is to finish construction projects within the planned budget, with the least possible unplanned outlay and in the desired quality. This standard forms the framework for the qualification of lean construction experts according to VDI 2553.
