The guideline provides an overview of the most commonly used methods for testing the hardness of metallic materials. The individual test methods and their practical application are given in short presentations. The guideline describes the special features of the various test methods and also covers their particular advantages and disadvantages. Selection of a suitable test method is rendered easier by clear tables and diagrams. This guideline supplements existing standards dealing with the hardness testing of metals. In addition, there is also coverage of the non-standardized hardness test methods which find wide application in practice.
