The document is to define a unified and consistent concept of safety terms for automation systems. Existing terms and definitions have been retained as far as necessary for an understanding of this guideline. The definitions are related to techniques and devices to avoid dangers, which can be caused by malfunctions of the automation systems. The scope covers safety of design, construction and operation of automated systems of technical processes, manufacturing, traffic engineering or similar applications.
