Summary
The guideline provides rules and recommendations for the presentation of alarms/messages and interaction of signalling systems. The application leads to interfaces and controls based on ergonomic findings compatible with those for flow charts and preformatted displays and complying with valid standards. Consequent application of the guideline leads to uniform Human-Machine-Interfaces for various workplaces. This guideline shall be applied to the presentation of alarms/messages used in process control during normal (production) operation or for the diagnosis of disturbances in automated systems. It applies to automated systems for chemical and petrochemical process technology, steam generation and process systems in the ironworks industry, where no specific regulations apply.
