This standard is applicable to straight cylindrical expansion joints and cylindrical angular expansion joints (e. g. 80° or 170° expansion joints) used on surface vessels and submarine vessels. It is applicable to the use of expansion joints in assemblies for oil and fuel up to PN 10 and in assemblies for seawater without any additives based on mineral oil, depending on the inserted flanges up to PN 50. In the text they are hereinafter referred to as expansion joints. Expansion joints according to this standard shall be used preferably, if special requirements are stipulated for low inherent resistance of the expansion joints, for low resistance of fluid flows and, with reference to the construction length, for more favourable movement. This standard is not applicable to expansion joints in aircrafts.
