This guideline specifies a method for the detection of methane emissions from landfills at their surface using a portable flame ionisation detector (FID). This method serves the purpose of checking the efficiency of safeguarding measures and remedial actions (e. g. capping, active or passive degassing), and of determining the location and the extension of emission sources (e. g. leaks).
