Summary
Based on VDI/VDE 2180 Part 1 and Part 2, the standard describes the verification of a predefined safety integrity level for a planned or already existing technical realisation of a PCE safety function. The structural requirements (proof of the required hardware fault tolerance) as well as the calculation of failure probabilities of PCE safety functions are described. In doing so, the examination with different test intervals and test depths and their impact on the probabilities of failure are discussed in detail.
