Summary

Based on VDI/VDE 2180 Part 1 and Part 2, this standard describes the verification of a specified safety integrity level for a planned or already existing technical implementation of a safety instrumented function. Both the structural requirements (confirmation of the required hardware fault tolerance) and the calculation of failure probabilities of safety instrumented functions are described. In this context, function tests with different test intervals and depths and their effect on the failure probabilities are also dealt with in detail.
