The basic principles of process control using display screens are explained. The guideline is applicable to process control using display screens in plants of chemical and petrochemical process engineering, steam generation plants, and process engineering plants in metallurgy, provided that no special regulations are to follow. This part shall be used to understand and to applicate the other parts of this guideline series. The guideline series specifies regulations and gives recommendations, regarding the design of displays (mimics, curves, messages) for cases where full-graphics display systems are used for process control, and it provides the basic principles of interaction procedures.
